For Lessons on my horse, in town:
A RIDING LESSON IN TOWN (Houston, TX 77018)
Virginia Neal Ellis offers horseback riding lessons, handling, husbandry or care lessons,
with her excellent horses,
just north of downtown Houston.
Helping humans and horses communicate, to reach goals from very basic to most advanced.
We will develop relaxation and use desirable forms of reinforcement.
Come share a lifetime of experience in a personalized, one on one environment.
Virginia is available for lessons mostly during the day, during the week. She mostly works with adults.
My beginning horse, Piper, is very tall. For safety reasons, I won't accept students under 14 years of age, unless very experienced and at least 5'2"/158cm tall. A student must be tall enough and strong enough to put the saddle up on top of this big sweet guy.
My other horse will not be suitable for beginners. He requires a very confident partner with a strong foundation in Behavioral Science, especially Classical Conditioning.
Are you an experienced rider? Do you also have other experience with ABA or have you trained a dog, chicken, cat, zoo animal, pig, fish, bird or other creature using R+?
If so, would you like to work with my amazing Mustang, utilizing consent and classical conditioning? You'll get to experience an entirely different sort of horse riding relationship. It's truly enriching, for both of you.
Must be a very experienced rider. Contact me to find out more.
I teach using an English saddle, with a bitless bridle. I believe that learning a balanced seat in an English saddle (or Bareback) will prepare us for riding in any style saddle. As we learn to move with the horse, syncing in tempo and rhythm, communicating in a way the horse desires, we find that use of the reins isn't really necessary.

Virginia has been training and teaching the classical principles of dressage, for more than 45 years. She endeavors to train through an understanding of the horse, combined with the biomechanics and biodynamics of the horse and horse/rider partnership, so that the horse can volunteer to perform to the extent of his capabilities and understanding. She is an avid student of horsemanship and a very knowledgeable and giving instructor. She chooses to initiate a course of study using Behavior Science, that enables the student to learn to the extent of their desire, allowing them to master balance, timing and feel, along with patience through empathy. Virginia also uses the idea of exploring cross-discipline study as an opportunity to expand our knowledge of the ways of the horse.

WHY DOES BEHAVIOR HAPPEN?
Generally speaking, we and our animals behave because, either there is something in it for us/them, or we/they want to avoid an icky consequence.
We/they are usually moving toward something desirable or away from something undesirable.
